JPF held our first annual Sports Ball Drive during December.  Our initial goal was to collect 200-250 balls to donate to 3 organizations in the city. Urban Initiatives, a nonprofit organization that runs health, education and character development programming for children in CPS; Beyond the Ball, a sports-based youth development nonprofit located in Little Village; and Breakthrough, an East Garfield park-based organization that fosters the development of the community by building healthy relationship networks, growing the skills of the men, women and children, were the three beneficiaries of the drive.

Through the tremendous generosity of co-sponsor Coskata, Inc. a Warrenville based renewable energy company, and a few private donors, we far surpassed our goal by collecting more than 600 sports balls!

The idea for the generous donation came from Coskata CEO William (Bill) Roe, who after meeting Jarrett and Trish, was greatly inspired by the foundation’s commitment and mission to helping children in the community.  “Service is deeply ingrained in our company’s culture,” said Roe.  “Our employees spend countless hours volunteering in the community and we saw this as a natural fit for our Coskata Cares corporate social responsibility initiatives.”

The 3 recipient organizations were extremely grateful for the donations and in early January, we delivered to two schools in Chicago on behalf of Beyond the Ball (Ortiz de Dominguez) and Urban Initiatives (Fulton Elementary School).

We are extremely grateful for the generous support of Coskata, its employees and all who helped us put together this equipment drive that will help so many!
